A beautiful raw quality to the voice and the music with a folk/indie/americana flavour. I’m not a big lady gaga fan (in fact it’s probably safe to say I dislike most of her songs) but this cover of Bad Romance is well worth a listen too. More info about Lissie here.
I love music, most kinds, from indie, rock, classical, pop to some darker metal and progressive genres although there are always the obvious exceptions like Britney Spears, etc… So in the spirit of musical love, I’m gonna share here some bands that I’ve really appreciated either recently or all-time favourites. There are lots of musical review websites out there and I don’t intend to take over their place but I do intend to make sure that people who care at all about this blog at least have a chance of discovering some awesome music that they may have never heard about before :) Disclaimer: I don’t really have formal musical training and may at times talk a load of shit, if referring to the wrong terms feel free to correct me ;)
Having first heard of them first via First Aid Kit’s very soulful cover of Tiger Mountain Peasant Song, I made a mental note to check them out but as I am constantly being bombarded by recommendations for new music, it went into my backburner for a long while. I was recently re-introduced to this band from Seattle by someone awesome (she’ll know who she is if she’s reading this :) and that pushed me to give it a well deserved listen to their album Fleet Foxes (2008). To describe it in one word for me would be homely. The warm subtle acoustic guitar pickings and rhythms all throughout the album are a delight to hear and the melodies are fresh and inviting. I would normally recommend a few tracks to people to get started on the album but having listened to it over and over again, it’s one of those rare albums that actually has too many good tracks to recommend any particular one :)
